The iconic Brady Bunch House is up for sale

UPDATE:  The Brady Bunch House has sold, for a whopping $3.5 Million! Nearly DOUBLE the asking price.

For a mere $1.885 million, you can own a piece of TV history. The iconic Brady Bunch House, located at 1222 Dilling St.  in North Hollywood, California, is on the market for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Possibly one of the best know homes in all of TV-land, this 3 bedroom, 2,477 square foot home was featured in the opening and credits of the beloved 70s sitcom, The Brady Bunch.

It quickly became an icon familiar to almost everybody in the U.S. and abroad. In fact, it is believed to be the 2nd most photographed residence in the U.S., second only to the White House.

Besides the fan-favorite appeal, the home itself features a 12,500 square foot lot, one of the largest in the neighborhood and the property borders the Los Angeles River, which is a unique feature of the property.

But don’t go looking for some of the familiar interior decor and design. Most of the actual TV show was shot on a sound stage in Los Angeles, so the inside of the home does look (and always has looked) very different from what you’ve seen on your TV.

There is a definitive 70s vibe to the home, even though it is not where the Brady Bunch actually lived, it almost feels like it could be.

Parts of the interior have been updated, while others maintain that classic 70s feel.

You can almost imagine Jan sitting on this bed yelling “Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!!”

As some fans have even noted, the outside shot of the house appears to be reversed from the interior layout used in the show. If you look closely, you’ll notice that front door appears to be on the right side of the house during the scenes which showcased the front room. That would put the upper bedroom are on the right side of house, not on the left as pictured from the outside.

But, despite those differences, the opening and closing curb shots have made this particular home an icon. Rarely do inanimate objects become stars on their own accord, the Brady Bunch house is one of those stars. So much so that Yelp has it listed as both a landmark and a historical building.

And, now, you can own the Brady Bunch House

According to Zillow, the current price is only a measly $1.885 million. This represents a VERY significant increase for the owners, who purchased the property in 1973 for only $61,000.  This also means that this is the first time the house has been available for sale since “The Brady Bunch” went off the air back in 1974.

According to CBS News and the Los Angeles Times, the Real estate firm Douglas Elliman is bracing for a flood of interest in the home. The home will only be available for viewing by appointment, in order to separate the voyeurs from the serious buyers.

“We’re preparing for an avalanche,” Carswell said in regard to the level of interest the listing has piqued. “Emails, telephone calls — we may see upwards of 500 calls a day.”

The realtors do not seem to have any doubt that the house will sell and sell quickly. However, because of the iconic nature of the house, Carswell assured fans of the show that they would not jump at the first big offer, especially from those who may be looking to rebuild on the oversized lot. This is a relief for fans of the show.
